Cobbs Creek is a neighborhood in the West Philadelphia part of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is bounded by Market Street on the north, 52nd Street on the east, Baltimore Avenue on the south, and the border of Upper Darby along Cobbs Creek on the west. The area is named for the creek, which forms part of the western border of Philadelphia. In 1998, the Cobbs Creek Automobile Suburb Historic District was established. It protects 1,049 buildings of the Tudor Revival, Bungalow/Craftsman and Colonial Revival architectural styles. The district's boundaries are Cobbs Creek Parkway, 62nd Street, Spruce Street and Angora Street. On November 12, 1998, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).
Sayre High School is a public school in Cobbs Creek. Formerly a middle school serving grades 7 through 9, it was established in 1949. In 2003, the school was changed to a high school and began offering classes from 9th to 12th grade. It has a population of 416 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of 14 to 1. 17% of its students are proficient in reading and 12% are in math. Part of the School District of Philadelphia, the high school is also home to the Sayre Health Initiatives Education and Leadership Development (SHIELD). The Sayre Health Center offers enrichment programs that provide medical assistant training, health professions education, scholarship opportunities and internship employment for high school students in the district.
Howard S. Morris Recreation Center is a 1.6-acre recreational facility for residents of Cobbs Creek. Located on Spruce Street, just south of Sayre High School, it provides amenities like:
The recreational building also offers a free after-school program and a $3 per day #3D Dance Workshop. In 1971, the center was named in honor of Howard S. Morris. It is open Mondays through Fridays from 1:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. On Saturdays, it is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
