Jacksonwald is a census-designated place (CDP) in the Exeter Township of Berks County, Pennsylvania. Situated not more than a mile from the borough of St. Lawrence, the area was established in 1870 as the Village of Jacksonwald, when John Jackson constructed the Jacksonwald Hotel on the corner of Church Lane Road and Oley Turnpike Road. Before then, the area was known as Schwarzwald because it reminded the early settlers of the Black Forest region in Germany. On March 27, 1967, the hotel was demolished for the construction of the National Penn Bank, a Boyertown headquartered bank branch. Today, Jacksonwald has a population of 2,900 people and offers a rural feel. 99% of its residents own their homes. The median value of a house in the area is $197,000.
