Rose Garden is a neighborhood in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Located at the geographical coordinates of 40.595975 degrees north latitude and 75.517424 degrees west longitude, it is surrounded by the communities of Park Ridge, Hamilton Park and West End Theatre District. Muhlenburg College is a liberal arts college just east of Rose Garden. Established in 1848 by Reverend Samuel K. Brobst – a Reformed Lutheran minister – the private college was initially the Allentown Seminary. Other names it has been referred to as are Allentown Collegiate and Military Institute and Allentown Collegiate Institue. In 1867, the school was relocated into Trout Hall, the former mansion of James Allen, William Allen's son. It was then renamed Muhlenberg College after Henry Melchior Muhlenberg, the patriarch of the Luthern Church in America. Today, the college is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. It has a total enrollment of roughly 2,225 students and offers programs in Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences, like chemistry, physics, biological science and mathematics.
Malcolm Gross Rose Garden, or better known as the Allentown Rose Gardens, is the main attraction for the neighborhood of Rose Garden. Situated between Hamilton Street and Linden Street, just off of Ott Street, it is home to a variety of beautiful roses and other flower species. The park is a popular designation for residents and visitors who are looking to enjoy an afternoon stroll, bicycle exercise or photography opportunity. It offers a 1.3-mile walking loop with 10 Wellness Stations that were designed for ages 50 and up. There are also three pavilions located throughout the park for lunch or social gatherings.
The Rose Garden is also a local favorite for engagement and prom pictures, as well as for a wedding venue. It is managed by the Allentown Department of Parks and Recreation and is open daily to the public.
Cedar Creek Parkway is more of an active park for families in Rose Garden and its surrounding area. Located near the Malcolm Gross Rose Garden, it provides recreational amenities like four lighted basketball courts, two beach and two hard volleyball courts, 2.3 miles of multi-use trails, a 1,900-square-feet Destination Playground, and the Cedar Beach Pool. The popular park also hosts a number of programs, special events and festivities for people of all ages during the summer months.
