The Historic Morton, Morton House

A must-see in the borough of Norwood is The Morton Morton House located at the confluence of Muckinipattis Creek and Darby Creek.

The 3 story house was built around 1750 by Morton Morton (1701-1781), the first cousin to John Morton, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Morton was also the great-grandson of Marten Martenson who was a settler in New Sweden in 1654. The Morton Morton House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

St. James Regional Catholic School, formed in 2012, is the area’s Catholic school. The school started in 2012 from a merger of St. Gabriel Catholic School and St. Madeline-St. Rose in Ridley Park. St. Donna Kowal, who began teaching at St. Gabriel in 1968, recalled that there were over 1,000 students at the time. The current student population, approximately 164 students, creates a more intimate classroom environment that enables students to become leaders in their community.
