Brief History of Linconia

Linconia is a neighborhood in the Bensalem Township of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Located at the geographical coordinates of 40.1257 degrees north latitude and 74.9824 degrees west longitude, it is in the vicinity of the communities of Somerton, Feasterville-Trevose, Trevose, Bensalem and Parkwood. The main roads servicing the area are Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 276), Street Road (Pennsylvania State Route 132), Lincoln Highway (Interstate 1), Trevose Road, and Old Lincoln High Way.

Linconia was established in 1923 by Frank K. Brown. The caucasian farmer of the Neshaminy Falls area had bought a farm and 80 acres of land to create a community where minorities were free to own land. He named it Linconia because of its proximity to Old Lincoln Highway. Today, the neighborhood has a population of 1,080 people.

Linconia Park

Linconia Park was a piece of land Brown had put aside as a public park for the neighborhood of Linconia. Situated at the end of Linconia Avenue, it is bounded by Poquessing Creek. The park offers recreational amenities like:

  • Baseball and softball field
  • Multipurpose field
  • Basketball courts
  • Playground

There are also park benches, picnic tables and a pavilion available for relaxation and social gatherings. The park is owned and managed by the Bensalem Township Parks and Recreation Department. It is open to the public daily from dawn to dusk.

Benjamin Rush State Park

Benjamin Rush State Park is a state park just to the southeast of the Linconia neighborhood. Owned and administered by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, it is open every day from 8 a.m. to sunset. The park provides a tranquil space to enjoy nature, as well as hike, bike and more. It's perfect for birdwatchers, wildlife enthusiasts and those wanting to getaway. Some of the features of the park include a large community garden, a radio controlled model airplane flying field, and multi-use trails through the own meadows and wooded areas. Benjamin Rush State Park also offers a great place to study and relax.
