The Battle of Edge Hill took place within the town on December 7, 1777. The British armies attacked American troops that were posted on Edge Hill. Close to where Limekiln Pike intersects with Edge Hill, British and Hessian soldiers routed a militia force along with the 2nd Connecticut Regiment that Joseph Reed led. In the northeast region of Edge Hill, Daniel Morgan commanded riflemen and Maryland militia, who put up a tough fight before falling back, joining the main army located at Camp Hill and Fort Washington.
