The town is an unincorporated community situated within portions of Abington Township and Upper Dublin Township. It is located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. It has an elevation of 289 feet or 88 meters. The postal service includes the community within the ZIP code 19038. Nearby communities include Roslyn, Glenside, Oreland, and North Hills.

The Battle of Edge Hill took place within the town on December 7, 1777. The British armies attacked American troops that were posted on Edge Hill. Edge Hill runs southwest to northeast along the roads now known as Willow Grove Avenue and Edge Hill Road. Close to where Limekiln Pike intersects with Edge Hill, British and Hessian soldiers routed a militia force along with the 2nd Connecticut Regiment that Joseph Reed led. In the northeast region of Edge Hill, Daniel Morgan commanded riflemen and Maryland militia, who put up a tough fight before falling back, joining the main army located at Camp Hill and Fort Washington.

During Tropical Storm Allison in 2001, the area underwent massive damage. A township took on a project to prevent future flooding. It included a drainage basin called "Floaties Pond" being reconstructed. The project has been successful, and minimal flooding has occurred since.
