Historical Background

Organized in 1682, the Chichester Friends Meetinghouse is a historic Quaker house designed to hold monthly meetings with Quaker residents of the early settlement. The meeting house is located near Boothwyn and remains a symbolic relic landmark of when William Penn first arrived in Pennsylvania.

The current building where the Chichester Friend Meetings continue to take place is located at 611 Meetinghouse Road near Boothwyn in Upper Chichester Township and was constructed in 1769. The building is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Another historic place is Booth's Corner, a favorite amongst locals and a well-known Pennsylvania Amish Market. The Market is located within Boothwyn, on the corner of Edwin Booth's land and property, which is how the cities name "Boothwyn" was originated.
