Including Wissahickon Valley, Pennypack Park, Cobbs Creek, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Park, and 58 additional parks, plazas, squares, and golf courses. However, since the 2010 merger, many of the additional parks became their entities.

The Fairmount Park grew out of the Lemon Hill estate of Henry Pratt, whose land was originally owned by Robert Morris, signer of the Declaration of Independence. The estate was purchased by the city in 1844 and was dedicated to the public by the city council's ordinance on September 15, 1855.

Fairmount Park has held great history. The park was the site of the 1876 Centennial Exposition, the first official World's Fair to be held in the United States, and the first zoo in the United States, the Philadelphia Zoo.

Due to these historical events, Fairmount Park was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 7, 1972.
