Bloomfield is a neighborhood located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The neighborhood spans a total area of 0.702 square miles hosting an approximate population of 8,442 with a population density of 12,000 per square mile. The land known today as Bloomfield was originally inhabited by a Native American Deleware tribe. The tribe occupied the land for hundreds of years until it was stolen by one of the earliest European settlers in the area, Casper Taub.

Once Taub stole the land, he sold it to family member, John Conrad Winebiddle. During the 1868 annexation, Winebiddle's descendants sold the land off to developers during which the town was named Bloomfield after the land's stunning flowers.

Throughout the late 1800s, the land was settled by German immigrants. Following the influx of population, the Germans opened the St. Joseph's Church in 1886.

In the early 1900s, many Italian Americans moved to the neighborhood and eventually became the majority, outweighing the German population.
