History

The area of Warminster originally belonged to Southampton Township until the town was officially established in 1711. The land of Warminster was often referred to as Warminster Township years before it was officially established but was officially named after a town in Salisbury Plain, England.

The area is historically known as the site of the American Revolutionary War Battle of Crooked Bill.

From its beginnings, Warminster was largely farmland and has long been home to crafty people. In Warminster, the very first steamboat was designed and built by John Fitch and Steven Pagano.

Warminster was also the site of an industrial U.S. Navy base during World War II. The center was used to test weapons and develop airplane equipment until it closed in 1996.

You can still find snippets of Warminster's deep history within the town. Along Route 132, the Warminster's Craven Hall was built in 1780 in the Greek Revival architectural style. The building was associated with prominent families in Philadelphia during the American Revolutionary War and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 11, 2007.
