Shadyside is a neighborhood within the eastern end of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The neighborhood spans 0.921 square miles and hosts an approximate population of 13,915 with a population density of 15,000 per square mile. Shadyside is known for its historic homes, shops, and restaurants.

Historic Landmarks

Shadyside is a longstanding community that began with a local farm to which the neighborhood is named after. The community was officially incorporated into the city of Pittsburgh in 1868 and hosts several historic landmarks representative of the community's journey.

Some of Shadyside's most notable historic landmarks include the Sellers House, Shadyside Presbyterian Church, and Hunt Armory.

Sellers House, also referred to as the Calvary Church Rectory, is a profound building on the northeast end of Shadyside. The home was built in 1858, spanning 2 acres, designed in the Italianate, Italian Villa, and Second Empire architectural styles. The Sellers House has been a treasure of Shadyside for many years. The building was designated as a City of Pittsburgh Historic Structure in 1995, a Pittsburgh landmark in 1969, and finally listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

On the other side of town stands the Shadywise Presbyterian Church. The church was built in 1889 by architects Rutan, Coolidge, and Shepley. The building's beautiful structure was designed in Romanesque and Richardsonian architectural styles. The church has been known to host notable preachers, including M. Craig Barnes, senior pastor and notable professor at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and remains open to the public.

Just around the corner from the Sellers House is the site of the Hunt Armory. The armory was built in 1916, designed by W.G. Wilkins Co. in the Classical Revival architectural style. For several years, the armory was used as the city's main auditorium known for hosting notable events, including a Led Zeppelin concert in 1969 and the annual Handmade Arcade. The armory was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 and has since been designated as Pittsburgh Historic Landmark in 2014.
