The neighborhood of Kirklyn is situated in the northeastern section of the Township of Upper Darby in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The community sits at an elevation of 223 feet and appears on the Lansdowne U.S. Geological Survey Map. Nearby communities include Llanerch, Bywood, Aronimink, and Ardmore Park. West Chester Pike and East Township Line Road are the main thoroughfares.
Before 1650, the area was inhabited by the Lenni Lenape Native Americans. The Natives lived by a Woodland culture and utilized a type of agriculture based on companion planting of the Three Sisters, which included:
The first European settlement, known as New Sweden, was established in 1653. However, very quickly, it was overtaken by the Dutch. By 1664, the English had gained control of the area, and in 1681, it became part of the land granted to William Penn.
The neighborhood was named after one of its prominent land-owning families, the Kirks. John Kirk purchased 100 acres of land from his father-in-law, Peter Ellet, in 1688. For many years, generations of the family resided in the town. Debbie and Lizzie lived off of Lansdowne Avenue in what became known as the Carriage House. The sisters can be credited with the town's name as they sold a portion of their homestead to the township improvement association. The Kirk house was purchased in the 1940s by the Perdentes and is known as The Mansion.

The neighborhood is home to Montrose Cemetery, a private, family-owned cemetery located just off West Chester Pike. The cemetery was established in 1896 and offers the community a well-maintained burial site for loved ones.
Residents can enjoy a members-only golf course, the McCall Golf Course, located on North Lynn Boulevard. The course was initially known as Kelly Field and used for baseball in 1912. However, in 1919 it was renamed in honor of Captain Howard McCall, an employee that died in World War I. The course began with a design by Donald Ross that included a miniature nine-hole course. As golf became more popular, the course was expanded to include the 4,469 yards it is now.
