Chester Creek & Trail

Taking a stroll along a beautiful creek can inspire creativity and clear the mind, our experienced Aston injury lawyers have sponsored this article, in hopes that you visit this historical creek and trail.

History of the Creek

The Chester Creek Trail in central Delaware County is a rail-trail that follows the creek along the Civil War-era Chester Creek Branch line of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Created to provide transportation through south and central Delaware County, the Chester Creek Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad began transporting residents in the late 1860s.

The railroad running parallel to Chester Creek was a critical economic connection for people traveling from nearby cities to mines, warehouses, and factories. The railroad was no longer required after many years of economic development and advanced means of transport and was permanently closed in 1972 following significant flood damage caused by Hurricane.

In 1994, the Friends of the Chester Creek Branch was formed under the sponsorship of the Chester-Ridley-Crum Watersheds Association. Around that same time, resident Mike Fusco believed there was a possibility of turning the abandoned line to a rail-trail.

Today, the rail-trail is a fully accessible path that separates the community to explore different areas of the creek. Visitors can find the trailheads on Lenni Road located in the city of Lenni, and Knowlton Road in Middletown Township.

Designed for all skill levels, the well-maintained paved trail allows pedestrians and bicyclists to travel alongside the creek. The scenic path is known for its safe environment, lush green surroundings, and a treasured destination for hikers and families nearby.

Local Projects

The Chester Creek Branch of Friends and the Rockdale Arts District have initiated a new partnership project with Walker to create a 450-foot long mural for visitors to enjoy, beginning in Spring 2020.

With Jay Walker, a nationally recognized artist known for his creative paintings, drawings, and carved sculptures, the mural will inspire outdoor art for all to observe and inspire.
