Norfolk Southern Allentown Terminal is the terminal of the Norfolk Southern Railway that is located in the Dutch Hill neighborhood of Allentown, on River Drive. The Norfolk Southern Railway is a subsidiary of the Norfolk Southern Corporation – one of the premier transportation companies in the United States. It operates 19,500 route miles in 22 states and Washington, D.C. The subsidiary also provides efficient connections to other rail carriers and is a major transport of industrial products and coal. It is the most extensive intermodal network and serves every major container port in the eastern part of the U.S.
Sterner's Island is an island just southeast of the neighborhood of Dutch Hill. Before English settlement, it was used by the Lenape Indians to hunt and gather. A stone fish trap is still visible on the island. Only accessible by boat, the island is now owned by the City of Allentown. It is utilized by Wildlands Conservancy for public education.
