Haddington is a neighborhood within the West Philadelphia portion of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is within proximity to the areas of Carroll Park, Mill Creek, West Philadelphia, Dunlap, Cobbs Creek and Millbourne. The largely African American community is bordered by Girard Avenue and Haverford Avenue to the north, 52nd Street to the east, Market Street to the south and 67th Street to the west. Other historical features of the neighborhood are the Thomas Dunlap School and George L. Brooks School. They were also added to the NRHP.
Commodore John Barry Elementary School is an elementary and middle school in Haddington. Offering classes from pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade, it has a total enrollment of 609 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of 15 to 1. Based on state test scores, 15% of its students are proficient in reading and 8% are in math. The school is part of the Philadelphia City School District. It has an overall Niche grade of a D plus.
Granahan Playground and Skatepark is a recreational space in Haddington. Prior to the development of the skatepark, the playground was home to an under-utilized roller hockey rink. Seeing the potential the rink will have, a local community leader proposed the idea of turning it into a skatepark to SkatePhilly and a number of community members. In partnership with Arment Concrete, Neighbors of Cobbs Creek North, Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, and the Charter High School for Architecture and Design, the Granahan Skatepark was opened on Go Skate Day 2017. Design for the space was done by the Charter High School for Architecture and Design. It is open daily from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
