Rockledge is a borough within Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Surrounded by the City of Philadelphia and Abington Township, it shares the same 19046 ZIP Code as Jenkintown. Established in 1952 in Jim Greener's basement, the model railroad has since relocated to the basement of a pizza shop, the basement of the former Fort Washington Elementary School, and now the "Old Mill" building in Rockledge. After two years of renovations, in July of 2016, the railroad was reconstructed for the fourth time.
The Rockledge Model Railroad Museum was then open to the public on the second Saturday of every month from 12 to 3 p.m. The nonprofit organization's mission is to educate the public on the history and art of model railroading. The museum wants to showcase to visitors how the real railroads had such a major impact on the development of the region.
Rockledge Park is a passive recreational park in the borough of Rockledge. Permanently preserved for public use, the Rockledge Borough and the Community Conservation Partnerships Program and the Montgomery County Open Space Program helped fund its establishment. The park features large open green spaces, shaded areas, a gazebo, and paved paths. The park is also the beginning point of the 6.2-mile Pennypack trail that is available for walking, jogging, biking and horseback riding. It can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at the intersection of Rockledge Avenue and Robbins Avenue.
Huntingdon Valley Shopping Center is a shopping plaza just north of Rockledge. Situated along Huntingdon Pike, it offers a number of stores, restaurants and services that cater to a resident's daily needs.
