The town received its name after the home of early settler Joseph Growden. This home became known as the Trevose Manor and later the Growdon Mansion. It is located on Neshaminy Vallery Road. It was formerly part of Feasterville-Trevose but was split in 2010 for the census.
The family once owned three-quarters of the land in the greater area. Lawrence and Joseph Growden each purchased 5,000 acres from historical Quaker William Penn. Lawrence never came to America, but Joseph arrived in 1683. He established both their claims to the purchased land. Joseph built his home around 1730.
The home later became the property of Joseph Growden's grandaughter, Grace Growden. in 1753, Grace married Joseph Galloway, but married women were not allowed to own property during this time. This allowed Joseph Galloway to automatically become the owner of the manor. Galloway and Benjamin Franklin were friends, and Franklin made many visits to the Galloway estate.
The community is home to the Trevose Fire Company, located on East Street Road. The fire department was formed during a meeting in 1926.
