Fox Chase is a charming neighborhood in Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Fox Chase is located on the border of Montgomery County and hosts an active business community.

Mysterious History

Originally belonging to the Lower Dublin Township, which ceased to exist following the Act of Consolidation in 1854, Fox Chase has survived the test of time and proves itself to be a progressive area.

In its beginnings, Fox Chase was an attractive area to wealthy Philadelphians who built their lavish vacation homes on the land. Once the Fox Chase Line, a route of the SEPTA Regional Rail, arrived in the area around 1878, the neighborhood changed. The line brought commuters to the area, and more Philadelphians became attracted to Fox Chase's suburban lifestyle.

Soon enough, many of Philadelphia's aristocracy moved to Fox Chase, building up their estates, mansions and used the railroad line for easy access to Center City.

While Fox Chase may seem like an ordinary suburban neighborhood, the area was the site of one of America's longest-running cold cases. In February 1957, local police found a cardboard box of Susquehanna Road stuffed with the battered body of a young boy. To this day, police haven't been able to identify the boy or find his murderer.

Fox Chase Charm

The neighborhood of Fox Chase is conveniently located near Montgomery County and Huntington Valley. The area offers residents fantastic access to several local attractions. A few of the most beloved locations representative of the charm of Fox Chase are Fox Chase Farm and the Ryerss Mansion.

Fox Chase Farm has been a local favorite for many years. The farm was built in 1822 and is one of the remaining two working farms in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Over the years, due to its central location on Pine Road, the farm's surrounding areas were purchased by the city of Philadelphia and have developed into residential neighborhoods.

The beloved farm was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Today, the Fox Chase Farm runs as an educational farm by the School District of Philadelphia.

If you're looking to learn more about the history of Fox Chase, be sure to stop by the Ryerss Mansion, also known as Burholme Mansion. Joseph Waln Ryerss built the mansion on 85 acres of land in 1859. The stunning mansion overlooks Burholme Park and holds a rich family history.

The Ryerss Mansion was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 21, 1976, and remains open as a museum.
